Buffalo worm
(Alphitobius diaperinus)
Sometimes called the lesser mealworm, the larvae of this small, smooth-shelled beetle only attain around 10mm and are softer than regular and mini-mealworm and thus can be used for many dart frogs, newts & salamanders and other amphibia.

Stater culture (buffalo culture (larvae & beetles plus culturing instructions in a 0.5L tub)

Bean weevil
(Callosobruchus maculatus)
These explosive breeders are perhaps one of the easiest livefoods to culture and relished by a number (but not all) dartfrogs, most toads, treefrogs and certain other amphibia. Adult weevils are approximately 4mm in size. Requires temperatures of 25°C+ to breed.

Starter culture (small number of weevils in a 0.5L vented culture container with enough media for 3 generations plus culturing instructions).

Confused Flour beetle
(Tribolium confusum )
A common pest in the flour and grain industry this species is easy to culture and the larvae provide a good alternative source of food for small amphibia. The adult beetles can give off a distasteful odour although some toads and Phyllobates may take them.
Stater culture (beetles, larvae plus culturing instructions in a 0.5L tub) £3.99
Grain weevil
(Sitophilus granarius)
These explosive breeders very simialr in culturing to the bean weevil except they live on wheat and otehr small grains. Requires temperatures of 25°C+ to breed quickly otherwise has a long development period. These weevils are slightly smaller, more elongate than bean weevils.

Starter culture (small number of weevils in a 0.5L vented culture container with enough media for 2- 3 generations plus culturing instructions).

Aphids
(Hemiptera)

Pea Aphid
(Aphis species))
Pea aphids subsist exclusively by the sap of the Pea.
They reach a size of 1-1.5 mm and are accepted by all dart frogs very much as food.
The pea aphid is an excellent, nutritious food supplement for Dendrobatidae
Pea aphids should be kept at a temperature of about 20 - 22°C and stored at moderate lighting. Temperatures above 25°C can lead to death of the aphids.
